[…] https://onbetterliving.com/onancock-virginia/ – Coined the “gem of the Eastern Shore” by Captain John Smith back in the 1600’s, Onancock has a rich history rooted in the calm, winding and deep waters that surround it. Once a bustling port town, today’s travelers will find an incredibly friendly, charming, and walkable town offering unique shops, great restaurants, a love for nature, the arts, and a coastal way of life that’s just waiting to be rediscovered. Love seeing our town in big print! Just a follow up that Willie Crockett recently passed away. His absence around town is palpable! Also, Canvas Hairdressing on North is a wonderful hair salon with very talented and friendly hair professionals! They have recently added some esthetician services as well. The owner, Brittany Burns, is part of the revitalize Onancock group. Also, Magpie’s Garden is a new flower shop beside the Charlotte Hotel, across the street from Janet’s. The owner, Maggie Stodghill is a Shore native with lots of talent and uber friendly and accommodating!

Onancock is a great place to stay and you certainly hit some of the highlights. There are at least three other B&Bs and many more restaurants and shops to visit. A great travel plan is to use Onancock as your base for seeing the whole shore. from Cape Charles to Chincoteague, as its smack in the middle and is the foodie capital of the Shore. All the restaurants and accommodations are award winners. While many stay just one night on their way to somewhere else, you really miss out that way, At least stay for two nights. Many places are closed on Sunday and Monday, so take that into consideration. Come early Friday to get settled. See the towns on Saturday, eat at one of our great restaurants, and go to one of the nature preserves on a Sunday. I originally came from California and could have lived anywhere in the world. I moved to Onancock after visiting it once. I have never regretted it. If you know California, Onancock has an early Carmel vibe to it.
